As many of you who read these blogs already know, upper Manhattan, especially on the west side, is exploding with new businesses and opportunities to experience all the incredible options NYC has to offer in terms of dining, drinking, and socializing without leaving the confines of your neighborhood. New places are opening up at a furious pace. Uptown isn't the Siberia of New York any longer, in fact, it is becoming a destination unto itself. At Bohemia Realty Group we have seen this process first hand and seemingly every month some awesome new eatery, café, or bar has opened its doors to enthusiastic patrons. So go ahead, move uptown…your friends WILL come to see you, in fact, they probably already live a few blocks away!
Here are just a few of my favorite uptown dining, drinking and partying options that have opened within the past couple of years:
300 West 116th at Frederick Douglass blvd
This place has it all! Delicious Mediterranean food, amazing coffee, African and Middle Eastern crafts and downstairs is an incredible, intimate bar and performance venue that features the best local musicians, poets and performance artists. Though only about a year old, this place embodies the community oriented values of historic Harlem. Not to be missed!
Double Dutch Espresso
2194 Frederick Douglass blvd
Owned by Bohemia agents Karen Cantor and Aaron Baird, this is an amazing neighborhood café, beautifully designed and featuring gourmet coffee, teas and pastries, it’s the perfect place to start your day, or lounge with work or a book.
100 W124th street (at Lenox ave)
Craving Shake Shack? Well South Harlem now has something even better! Delicious burgers, fries, shakes, and more, with a little hint of Cajun spice and soul food flavor. Casual dining at its finest!
3612 Broadway (at W149th street)
Hamilton Heights is really booming now. Harlem Public epitomizes this as much as any new establishment. This place features incredible selection of craft beers on tap, gorgeous old-world designs, and a delicious menu. Their brunches are fantastic too! In the short time it has been open already it is a thriving social hub for local residents.
Buddha Beer Bar
4476 Broadway (at W190th st)
Further up in Washington Heights this is another fantastic new bar featuring amazing selection of craft beers, food options and community events. Located on Broadway and W190th street it is one of several new places that are popping up in the Broadway corridor just south of Ft. Tryon Park. Great people, great food and a really great vibe!
So that’s just a small sample of the dozens of new places that have opened in the past two years uptown. More appear every day!
