Being a father myself, one of the things I find most rewarding about my job is helping families find more than just an apartment, but a HOME.  Not only your home, but also your surroundings are very important when considering where your family should settle down.  Clients ask me all the time, “Where can I take my kids around here?” Harlem’s neighborhoods have some of the most unique, culturally rich and fun places for children of all different ages.

Starting at a young age, parents start taking their kids to the playground.  Harlem offers several choices for children to run, climb, swing and play in the sandbox. The playground at 110th Street and Cathedral Parkway is surrounded by trees and rocks and features a sandbox, embankment slide, modern climbers and spinners, tire and bucket swings. The playground at 117th and Morningside Ave is also a personal favorite. Here children can swing, climb and enjoy refreshing sprinklers on hot summer days.

If you’re looking for physical activity during the colder months, Harlem has fantastic options as well! Consider taking a martial arts class at Harlem Tae Kwon Do with Master Fall in a new, modern training facility on Harlem's West 116th Street. For a more relaxing activity, try a yoga class at Land Yoga. They offer classes for kids from ages 2-13. Or if you’re a yoga fanatic as well, try one of their family yoga classes together.

Libraries and museums are also a great way to stay warm in the winter or cool off in the summer! Many of Harlem’s libraries offer free programs for infants, toddlers and school age children.  There’s everything from story time to places where children to have computer access for homework.  Check out the Harlem Library on 124th Street. For a little culture, visit the Studio Museum of Harlem. This museum offers programs and activities that allow families to share in the creative process. Bring the family to the Studio Museum and explore art in new and exciting ways!

After a long day of fun with your child, why not indulge the family’s sweet tooth and stop off for some delicious cupcakes at Tonnie’s Minis.  You won’t regret it!
