I have been a dancer all my life and a Ballroom Dance teacher since 1996. I love to dance and teach and without a doubt it is the only thing that makes me super happy.
A lot of people start taking dance classes to get in shape and to take up a new hobby. Dancing can provide a great stress relief and promote an overall sense of well-being. Most recently we have heard of another great benefit. Dancing makes us smarter and is said to improve a person's cognitive skills since it prepares the brain for prime learning. A major study has found that stimulating one's mind through dancing can prevent Alzheimer's disease and dementia the same way physical exercise can keep the body in shape.
There are a lot of Ballroom Dance studios in Manhattan that offer classes for children and adults. Most of them offer a free introductory class where you can sample a few different dances.
Just give it a try.
You can get healthier, slimmer, smarter and have lots of fun.
